National Grassroots Convention - Sun, July 13 DC Area

On July 12th, 2008, thousands of members of the Ron Paul Grassroots will gather from around the country in Washington, D.C. for the March. It will be the largest gathering of grassroots supporters in the campaign's history. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Let's tailgate the rally with a convention! People will be spending hundreds of dollars to get here, so let's make it really worth their while. Then this becomes a two day affair by having a convention on the 13th. Conventions are different from rallies. Both have speakers, but conventions have lectures, workshops, and seminars. This means less "Rah, Rah" and more how to.

The biggest challenge is finding a venue with just over two months notice and pulling it together in that time. Who wants to help make this happen? We need to work fast!

Please join The Ron Paul Grassroots Convention Meetup

Thanks,

The grassroots are Dr. Paul's supporters, and while we support his presidential campaign, we also support many congressional and local candidates running under the Republican, Libertarian, Constitutional, Independent and Democratic party banners. That means that we are non-partisan and this is an educational event to prepare people for future campaigns and solidify us as a movement. We have no connection to Dr. Paul's official presidential campaign. Our focus is the 2010 and 2012 election cycles.

Meetup 1887 Conference call 1 notes

We first spoke with Deborah Robinet of The Revolution March Foundation. She informed us of the Travel and Lodging committee that they have put together for the march. There are some contacts that we can reach to find out more about the actual convoy routes (Ronvoy). There will be a new site up soon for the Ronvoy. Ronvoy.com It also appears that they are trying to work with Best Westerns in the area for lodging. Deborah also informed us that workshops the day before the march were announced on the Ron Paul Forum today.

We talked about promoting our convention through the Ron Paul March website.

We also spoke with a few people from Revolutionbroadcasting.com. We went over some of the details of webcasting our events. They have a few people staying for a few days after the march to help us with that. They did give us a little air-time after the call. We may be able to get some more promotion from them.

We talked about the pros and cons of different venues and have put together a basic schedule of events. With state schools as an option we will be looking for contacts within the schools to find sponsorship.

We spoke about catering, speakers, workshops and seminars, power, A/V, chairs and tables etc.

We are planning for several conference calls in the coming week.
Private schools if sponsored
State schools if sponsored
Community centers
Convention center (expensive)
Land with tents (for possible Ronstock on Monday) Try to get people to stay around after the convention

Live streaming of seminar / workshop audio and video + making it available as archives for later use.

Tentative schedule:

Times---Blocks

9:00 – 10:00: Convention workers briefing and setup.
10:00 – 1:00: Keynote speaker & panel discussion(s)
Keynote speaker: (Ideally Dr. Paul, speaking as an individual) On becoming a long term grassroots movement.
Panel discussion 1: Getting past party lines – Made up of our congressional candidates with ideally one each of Independent, Constitutional, Libertarian, Democrat and Republican all running under a similar platform. An Independent is confirmed.
Panel discussion 2: Undetermined, but something like campaigning in a Web 2.0 world.
1:00 – 2:00: Lunch and meet & greet & book signing (band?):2:00 – 3:00: Block 1
3:00 – 4:00: Block 2
4:00 – 5:00: Block 3
5:00 – 6:00: Block 4
6:00 – 7:00: Block 5
? 7:00-8:00: Block 6 (optional)
7:00 – 8:00 or 8:00 – 9:00 Social time and closing ceremony (band?)
8:00 – 9:00 or 9:00 – 10:00 Clean up.

So that's 25 - 30+ seminars and workshops and we could have workshops in the same track running side by side if we need to add more. Any attendee would be able to take 5.

We have tentative commitments for seminars or workshops:

Ray Powell - How to be an Internet broadcaster on Revolution Broadcasting
Jim Azola: How to set up a call center.
Neal: Pre-Press preparation – getting things ready to be printed.
Tom Lezardo: How to run for office
John Orlando: How to be a campaign treasurer
A band has agreed to play if we can do the setup.

Dr. Paul has been invited, and his office has sent a query for clarification on one point, so it is being considered.
